TAKE A PICTURE WORTHY OF PUTTING ON THE WALL AND HANG IT UP!

It dawned on me that the pictures I should be putting up on the wall were pictures of my children. I have a LOAD of pictures of them but none that really struck me. After spending some time looking through all of my photos of a landscape, I realized the pictures that really struck as one I wanted to stare at day in and day out were some great shots of the kids. They may not be the absolute perfect pictures for the frame but I think they capture their personalities so well. A couple of the pictures of my little boy playing baseball in our backyard and some close ups of my little girl laughing and smiling. The focus on his face and the sparkle in her eye give me joy every time I look at those pictures.

BUY CLOTHES WITHOUT LOOKING AT THE PRICE TAG

When I started this list, I originally had in mind that it would be clothes for myself. The opportunity presented itself for me to buy an Atlanta Braves jersey for my little boy when we were recently at the game and I took it.

It started last summer when my children and I went to our first Atlanta Braves game as a family. (My son and I had gone previously with some friends but that's not important to THIS story). When we were at that game, I told the kids that they could have a souvenir. I think my little girl chose an Atlanta Braves baseball (or a hat) and my son wanted a jersey with Chipper Jones' name on the back.

We had no luck finding a jersey that he wasn't swimming in so I told him we would find one online or something. Well, it's been almost a year. He had long since forgotten about the jersey but I started to feel guilty. After all, I had made a promise to my little boy and I intended to keep it.

We came across one of the stores at the stadium that had children's shirts/jerseys. He tried on the smallest size they had, which was still a little big. He looked so stinking cute in it AND he was so excited when he put the jersey on. I just had to get it for him. That was when it dawned on me. I had the opportunity to cross another thing off of my list and doing something special for my little boy at the same time. The price wasn't a total shock when I found out but it definitely was a bit more than I would typically be willing to pay.

The lady asked what we wanted to custom embroider on the back and let us know that it was going to be about 20 minutes. It was already pretty late so I decided to tack on the few extra bucks to get the jersey shipped to my house. About a week later, it arrived. The look on his face when I told him what was in the package was priceless. He absolutely LOVES that jersey!

Luckily, I've been able to get it off of him long enough to wash it before he puts it back on.

DANCE IN THE RAIN WEARING FANCY CLOTHES

I kept wondering how I was going to complete this task. It seemed silly for me to wait until it rained and then go put on dressy clothes just for the sake of crossing this off my list. The likelihood of me being dressed up already and having an opportune moment to go out into the rain seemed miniscule.

But it happened.

My friend, Sabrina, was having her graduation party at her house. Christina, Lauren, Emily (Lauren's sister) and I were all there to celebrate Sabrina's wonderful accomplishment and we had a great time. There was good food (always important)! Good dance music and most important, great company!! We celebrated until about midnight or so. We felt cool drops of rain as soon as we walked out the door to head home. Instantly, I realized that I could cross this off my list. I asked Lauren to take pictures (more like shoved the camera in her hand) and just started twirling in the rain.

It felt so refreshing. I tried to find a big enough pool of water to jump in so I could also cross off #52 (jump in a puddle). No luck on that one but this one was fun just the same. For about five minutes or so, I twirled around and pretended I was doing ballet. I felt like a goober most of the time; however, my inner child started to peek out. That is when I didn't care who was watching or how silly it was for a 30-year old woman to dance in the middle of the street. I felt alive. No worries, no stress. Just like a child. We all need to push ourselves to have moments like these.

Next time, you get stuck in the rain. Take a moment to stop and enjoy it. With your arms outstretched, eyes closed and face toward the sky. Don't worry about anything. Just feel the rain. It has an amazing cleansing power. And it'll make you smile.

PULL A PRANK ON SOMEONE

Back in November, a colleague was celebrating another anniversary of his birth. Being the wonderful person that I am , I (along with two friends/colleagues) made sure to wish him a happy birthday by sending students at appropriate times to announce the wonderous event to his class.

Apparently, he does not like to celebrate his birthday. I came in the next day to bulb-less lamps in my classroom. And a couple of days after that, I walked into a classroom with glitter all over my desk and chair. WHAT A PAIN! He did the same thing to one of my friends and he Post-it noted the entire dry erase board of the other friend. Just so you know, the sticky part of the Post-it note makes writing notes near impossible because the marker will not come off of the board.

Fast forward to May 2009, we finally decided it was time to get him back (and cross another thing off of my list). The only problem is that he used some of the hole-punch filled balloons against us and popped them all over our floors (mostly on Kristen's).

I personally felt like I was in a bit of a quandry. Do we get him back for getting us back and possibly start a vicious cycle that may just get progressively worse? OR do we just let him feel good about getting us back with our own prank and admit defeat? That is a VERY tough call... I'll probably have to get back to you on that one.

EAT 'REAL' SUSHI

For a number of years, I have been a huge fan of California Rolls as well as Bagel Rolls and even got as adventurous as Dragon Rolls. I never wanted to try raw fish. eww... nast-y...

Accomplishing the task of eating 'real' (AKA raw) sushi began on Mother's Day. It started off in Stage 12 (the Children's Ministry at church). The kids in there always amaze me. They have such a heart for the Lord and it's always bittersweet. I am so ecstatic to be a part of their lives as they grow in their relationship with Christ but it sometimes makes me sad that I was not able to experience this kind of love at the same age. After attending the second service, the kids and I headed up to Jason's parents house. Have you ever met someone (or a group of people) who you feel completely comfortable with after spending only a short time with them? That's how Jason's family is. It really isn't all that surprising really considering Jason was a very comfortable person to be around from the beginning.

The kids hadn't seen them since Christmas Day and had never met Jason's brother but it did not take long at all for the kids to act "normal". The only hesitation was with my little girl being around Jonah, the English Mastiff who is about the size of a horse but as snuggly as a teddy bear. After a wonderful afternoon, I took the kids back to their dad's house. I was going to suggest sushi (really, I was) but Jason already beat me to it and suggested a place neither one of us had ever been to. It was a Chinese-Thai-Sushi place. We started out with a spicy rainbow maki, tuna, yellowtail and salmon. All things Jason said were good to easing someone into the "real" stuff. It was delicious. My favorite was the rainbow maki and then the tuna (I think). It did not seem much different from the rolls that I was used to trying so I think it was definitely a good choice for starting out.

The girls came over on Friday and we did sushi again. This time from Nina's place. That was phenomenal as well. I can remember having the salad roll and the king tiger. Mmm... de-lish. It was the first time in awhile since I've been able to hang out with her and to have all the girls there was the ending to a pretty emotionally draining day with seniors. Jason stopped by too and listened to me vent about the day before the girls got there. We all sat around the kitchen table laughing and eating while the kids were already in bed. Jason said 'bye' and we watched "Bride Wars" with Anne Hathaway and Kate Hudson. True to form... I am turning more and more into my mother every day. I was awake for the first 45 minutes or so, fell asleep during the middle and woke up to see the last 20 minutes. Friday nights are great for staying in and watching a movie. The only thing is a long week of getting to bed late, waking up early and dealing with irresponsible, whining teenagers can definitely make you pass out early.

All in all, it was a good night with the girls...

GO SALSA DANCING

Salsa dancing came by surprise... I thought all day that Jason and I were just going to hang out so I didn't take any extra measures to look especially cute. The outfit I wore to work was casual since it was Friday. He let me know that we were going to cross something else off of my list today but wouldn't tell me what. I think it's seeing my reaction once the activity is revealed that really makes him happy... I could be wrong (J, let me know if I am).

The first errand of the night was to make a batch of homemade chili and bring it to a couple who just had a baby the week before. (It was awesome chili, too.) We got to the couple's house and I even got to hold their little girl. It has been so long since I've held a baby that tiny. Even though my kids still crawl in my lap and snugglebug with me, they are far from being as tiny as this little girl. She was so sweet and quiet. Nostalgia took over and I could remember so many days (and late nights) when I would recline on the couch with the kids nestled on my chest asleep. It was those times that made the constant crying (and the explosive diapers) well worth it.

The next stop was to see a friend. It was then that Jason told me we were going to go salsa and that Eve was going to teach me a few moves. I was very excited but at the same time I did not feel like I was dressed for the occasion. It didn't really matter though. The thoughtfulness that went behind the surprise was pretty overwhelming. We went to a restaurant called Eclipse di Luna. After some food and beverages, Eve and I went out on the floor. I knew I could move my hips since I grew up in South Florida. Some things are just contagious when you grow up in a certain culture.

Even though I felt like a total goober, I think I did all right for a beginner. It only took a couple of times before Eve thought I was ready for my 'real' dancing partner. Jason and I had a great time. Neither one of us are great (I don't know that I would even classify myself as 'good') but we had fun together. I am ready to go again. Next time, I need to wear a better salsa outfit AND I need a pic.
